There is so much design competition in the world that it is hard to find someone that knows what they are doing and can not only talk the talk but walk the walk.

I recently have a couple of associates that are looking for web design. Unfortunately I was too expensive for one of them. But this is my point. Today in a world where we are bombarded by websites, mobile phones, social media and what ever else…the key to a website is your BRAND. We no longer live in the world of web 1.0 and quickly surpassing 2.0.

My point is this….invest in a website, invest in a good designer, invest in your company. Don’t do anything just to do it but do it the best.

For instance, my one associate I was too expensive but she liked me and my work. I had results to prove it. She didn’t go with me but went with another designer. She recently called and had me advise on her new site. When I saw it my first reaction was ” this looks like the old site, just moved around a bit”. It didn’t have any new features, it didn’t capture the reader, there wasn’t a flowchart or strategy behind it so how can it work for you?

I hate to see people invest in something and get crap. So invest in your company and spend the extra bit of money. It will be worth it in the end.

My question to you is…what 2 do you pick?

Living it up creatively

How many people can say that they love their work? Not many and I use to not love it so much…but times change and so do minds. I can easily say I LOVE WHAT I DO.

I got the opportunity to work as a freelancer for a creative agency and I’m kicking some ass. I’m not getting a big head about it but it gives me the reinforcement I was looking for, for the last 7 or so years. The client loves my work…their clients like the work and that just makes me happy.

When I was in art school I have to say I was in the top percentage of my class, along with my other friends who were there with me as well…we got creative and did some great things. But then the real world came and I took a path that didn’t lead me to my creative freedom as I had hoped. I still did design but my skills got a bit rusty and I did not like that at all. Although during that time I learned about art production, printing and now I can do that with my eyes shut as well as teach other people how to do it. I was told by an associate that my design skills weren’t really great but should strive to be better and start looking at creative stuff, drawing my own illustrations instead of buying other peoples. Then opportunity knocked on my door….and time to leave the past behind.

I started freelancing, getting my creative back and boy does it feel GREAT! And 7 -8 years later….I got the reinforcement that I was searching for in the REAL world that my creative work is great and so are my ideas!

In-flight wi-fi

I just have to say how much in-flight wi-fi can save time when on those long flights. I’m using it for the first time on Virgin America and LOVE IT! Just because you are on a flight, doesn’t mean the rest of the world stops. It is about 12-13 dollars but well worth it, and you can write it off as a business expense.

This being my first time for in-flight wi-fi, I just can’t stop raving about it. So convenient and I’m actually being productive and can search the internet, check emails and be on top of what i need to do.

Other airlines need to get on this asap. I’m sure some are but “approval” happens so slow, and most don’t offer it yet….except VA!!! (and some newer airlines)

12 hour days

12 hour days are great when you have lots of work to do…get up a 6am, finish by 6pm. I think i’m going to continue on this path until my had falls down on my computer. I feel energized and feel like I get sooo much accomplished!

Quiet to work at night

Just sitting here thinking to myself, “Self, after a long day of working, running around, making phone calls, dealing with personal matters, it’s 6:22pm. I got up about 12 hours ago at 7:20am and still going. But here at night…..it’s quiet and I can get a lot done without being disturbed.

Time Management

Does anyone else find it hard to time manage when you are the networking, manager, designer, programmer, project manager and still need time to find a social life and spend quality time with your hunny?

I find that it is easier to get up at 7am…although it is tough….you basically get more out of your day and actually are more productive in the morning when the phone is not ringing. I also find it nice to work at night.
